Easy to install and lightweight trade coving
Developers and house builders in the post war housing boom fitted the standard C-shape cove in the majority of houses built in this period. Relatively basic, cheap and cheerful, it suited a purpose. Three sizes were prevalent - 4”, 5” and 6” (or 100, 127 and 150mm).
Nowadays by far the most popular is the 5” or, as it is now more commonly known, 127mm coving. Being a uniform profile and without any design pattern, it is extremely simple to put up and so is very popular with plasterers and decorators. It is especially helpful that it is now made in lightweight, thick card faced polyurethane, so is very light but will not dent or break if dropped. With a single coat of paint, it looks exactly like the original gyproc plaster coving.
Everything you need to install your coving
We supply the 127mm cove in 2 different handy packs - in a standard ‘Mail Pack’ box of 12 x 2m lengths or as a handy ‘Room Kit’, with pre-cut corner pieces designed to fit out an average room which may have a chimney breast to cove around. It is supplied with 6 internal pre-cut corners and 2 external pre-cut corners plus a variety of lengths to give a total of approx 23 metres per box.
Each style of pack also includes 4 tubes of mounting adhesive/filler which is more than enough for the amount of coving in each pack plus any additional filling that may be required. (Note that the use of ‘Extra Fix jointing adhesive’ is not necessary for this product.) To cut this material you can either use a typical Stanley blade knife or a fine tooth saw. A small mitre box or 127mm cutting guide are the only other tools you will need.
Unfortunately we do not supply the 100mm or 150mm coving profiles, nor do we supply the 127mm in single lengths - only as factory packed boxes as above. However we can supply individual corner sections (2 corners per box) if it is more convenient to order them separately along with the standard pack of 12 x 2m lengths.
Coving that fits over existing plaster cove
On the other side of the coin, some people who already have this ‘simple’ coving often wish to install something a little more ornate. Rather than removing it completely, many profiles in our Coving or Cornice product range (Eg CX106 or C333) will simply fit over the top of the 127mm cove. It is an easy and cheap way of redecorating a room without having the mess of having to pull down the existing plaster cove (and potentially the ceiling with it). Please ask for a sample first if you need to confirm this will work for you.
